Draft Grade — Bengals

More right than wrong for the Bengals, and a B- to prove it. Of all the ways to open, the Bengals chose the head-scratcher, spending No. 40 on Quincy Rhodes Jr. with tight end, linebacker and other spots still wide open. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Anderson pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
Reaching for Hartford left real value on the table behind him.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick9
Rnd1
T.J. Parker
T.J. Parker at Round 1, Pick 9 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick40
Rnd2
Quincy Rhodes Jr.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Quincy Rhodes Jr. adds an edge rusher and leaves tight end, linebacker and other spots untouched.
Pick74
Rnd3
Xavier Chaplin
A straight-up fair deal on Xavier Chaplin at the Round 3 slot, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick109
Rnd4
C.J. Fite
C.J. Fite at the 109th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick188
Rnd6
Aaron Anderson
Aaron Anderson at slot 188 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick196
Rnd6
Josh Moten
No drama and no debate, Josh Moten went about where he belonged in the 196th pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick223
Rnd7
Malik Hartford
Malik Hartford at pick No. 223 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It adds depth where they could use a little.
