The Bengals got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the C-. Nobody had Dominic Zvada this high, and it is not close. The Bengals reached 237 spots to get him at slot 72.
However the rest shakes out, Scott at that price is a win they earned. The trade table is where this weekend went wrong.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. The Zvada pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with interior defensive lineman and quarterback still on the board.
So much rides on D'Angelo Ponds that the real verdict is a season or two away.
Pick Analysis
Pick41
Rnd2
D'Angelo Ponds
By-the-book stuff, D'Angelo Ponds at No. 41 squarely in line with his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick72
Rnd3
Dominic Zvada
Of all the spots to shop, they chose specialist. Dominic Zvada in Round 3, Pick 8 leaves interior defensive lineman and quarterback for later.
Pick73
Rnd3
Josiah Trotter
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Josiah Trotter at the Round 3 slot is the proof. The roster fit checks out.
Pick110
Rnd4
Keionte Scott
You do not let a cornerback like Keionte Scott reach pick No. 110 and blink. They did not. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick132
Rnd4
Bryce Lance
Bryce Lance in the 132nd pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick146
Rnd5
Oscar Delp
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Oscar Delp at pick 146. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick149
Rnd5
Dametrious Crownover
A tidy little value on Dametrious Crownover in pick No. 149, a step better than break-even. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick189
Rnd6
Le'Veon Moss
Le'Veon Moss in the Round 6 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick199
Rnd6
Kaleb Elarms-Orr
Kaleb Elarms-Orr at Round 6, Pick 18 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick221
Rnd7
Zavion Thomas
A reach on Zavion Thomas in No. 221; the board had better options right there. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick226
Rnd7
Robert Spears-Jennings
They went early on Robert Spears-Jennings in pick 226, and the value did not follow. A minor itch, scratched.
