Draft Grade — Bengals
Overall D-
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureB
A passer of the future in Simpson, and a D-, for the Bengals.

The trade table was where it all came apart. The Bengals shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill. Hard to defend, and the D- reflects that.

The whole projection now runs through Ty Simpson; hit there and everything else looks smarter. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

The cost of the Fano reach is exactly the players who went right after him. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Bernard.

A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.

Pick Analysis
Pick6 Rnd1 Spencer Fano
In the 6th pick they get a building block for the line, even if it was a touch early. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick10 Rnd1 Ty Simpson
In No. 10 they get a long-term answer under center, though they paid up to get him. A real need, handled.
Pick39 Rnd2 Brandon Cisse
Brandon Cisse in slot 39 is fair value, right on his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick49 Rnd2 CJ Allen
A quiet steal in pick No. 49: CJ Allen for less than the market said. It fills a real need, too.
Pick72 Rnd3 Germie Bernard
Circle this one: Germie Bernard at the 72nd overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick110 Rnd4 Joe Royer
Joe Royer is a better player than Round 4, Pick 10 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick197 Rnd6 Desmond Reid
A straight-up fair deal on Desmond Reid at the Round 6 slot, value and slot in agreement. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick226 Rnd7 Ahmaad Moses
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ahmaad Moses. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
