Draft Grade — Panthers
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB+ TradesD+ FutureC+
The Panthers kept it disciplined and banked a B-.

There is reaching, and then there is Xavier Nwankpa at pick 156. The Panthers jumped the board by 29 and dared it to prove them wrong.

That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. On value alone, Lawson makes the weekend a net positive. The Panthers clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.

They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
In the Round 1 slot they get a green-dot type in the middle, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick31 Rnd1 Denzel Boston
Denzel Boston at the 31st overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick56 Rnd2 Nyck Harbor
No edge and no loss on Nyck Harbor in No. 56; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick63 Rnd2 Eli Stowers
A reach for Eli Stowers in pick 63; a little patience would have been rewarded. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick89 Rnd3 Deontae Lawson
Deontae Lawson slid further than he should have, and the 89th pick is lovely value for the linebacker. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick156 Rnd5 Xavier Nwankpa
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Xavier Nwankpa. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick194 Rnd6 DJ Campbell
DJ Campbell slipping to the 194th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick230 Rnd7 Diego Pavia
Diego Pavia at Round 7, Pick 16 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
