The Cardinals did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B.

Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Cardinals spent pick No. 217 on Cole Payton, a name most had 20 spots down the list. Good, not great, and the B says as much.

For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Boettcher. The roster is better shaped than it was, with quarterback chief among the fixes.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick3 Rnd1 Francis Mauigoa

In pick 3 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. Exactly the need they had to hit.

Pick34 Rnd2 Colton Hood

Colton Hood slid further than he should have, and the Round 2 slot is lovely value for the cornerback. A minor need, but a need all the same.

Kamari Ramsey in slot 65 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.

Quietly one of the better values of the day, Ja'Kobi Lane at No. 104. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.

Pick141 Rnd5 Logan Jones

Logan Jones is a better player than the 141st pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
