The Bills cashed the board's mistake on Rodriguez: C-. The board owed the Bills one, and it paid up: Jacob Rodriguez, the No. 94 name on the board, sitting there at No. 166 like a gift left on the doorstep.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
They will need Baker to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. Adding Courtland Sutton by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
It grades out a shrug today, with plenty of room to move either way.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Spencer Fano
In Round 1, Pick 30 they get a blindside protector, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick31
Rnd1
Olaivavega Ioane
Olaivavega Ioane at the 31st overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick32
Rnd1
Jordyn Tyson
In pick 32 they get a weapon on the perimeter, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick60
Rnd2
T.J. Parker
They will replay T.J. Parker at the 60th pick for years; that is how good the value is. The roster fit checks out.
Pick91
Rnd3
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
Taking Emmanuel McNeil-Warren in the Round 3 slot is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick95
Rnd3
Lee Hunter
Steal is underselling it; Lee Hunter at pick No. 95 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick96
Rnd3
Ja'Kobi Lane
You do not let a wide receiver like Ja'Kobi Lane reach slot 96 and blink. They did not. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick166
Rnd5
Jacob Rodriguez
Jacob Rodriguez in No. 166 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick220
Rnd7
Gunner Stockton
Nice patience on Gunner Stockton, who had no business lasting to Round 7, Pick 4. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick228
Rnd7
Tosh Baker
They went early on Tosh Baker in pick No. 228, and the value did not follow. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
