Draft Grade — Panthers

FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Panthers. Call it belief, call it a gut call, but DeMonte Capehart at pick No. 111 is 33 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
The wide receiver spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick10
Rnd1
Peter Woods
In slot 10 they get a double-digit-sack hope at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick41
Rnd2
Malik Muhammad
A reach for Malik Muhammad in No. 41; a little patience would have been rewarded. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick76
Rnd3
Deontae Lawson
Deontae Lawson at Round 3, Pick 12 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick111
Rnd4
DeMonte Capehart
A wild overpay on DeMonte Capehart in the 111th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick149
Rnd5
Eric O'Neill
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Eric O'Neill well ahead of where he belonged. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick162
Rnd5
DJ Campbell
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on DJ Campbell. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick192
Rnd6
Bryce Foster
Bryce Foster at Round 6, Pick 9 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick230
Rnd7
Kayin Lee
They left a pile of value on the table to take Kayin Lee this early at the Round 7 slot. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
