Draft Grade — Cardinals
Overall D-
ValueC+ NeedB+ TradesF FutureB-
The Cardinals finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a D-.

The Cardinals spent real capital to be 136 picks early on Markis Deal, and the board is going to hold them to it. Hard to defend, and the D- reflects that.

They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. Ty Simpson gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits.

The Haulcy pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with wide receiver, edge rusher and other spots still on the board. Leaving wide receiver unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

The Haulcy value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.

Pick Analysis
Pick3 Rnd1 Ty Simpson
In pick No. 3 they get a long-term answer under center, though they paid up to get him. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick34 Rnd2 Emmanuel Pregnon
Emmanuel Pregnon at the 34th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick48 Rnd2 Dillon Thieneman
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Dillon Thieneman at the Round 2 slot. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick65 Rnd3 Lee Hunter
A top-tier interior defensive lineman at a bargain, Lee Hunter in the 65th pick, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick79 Rnd3 A.J. Haulcy
A surprising call. With wide receiver, edge rusher and other spots still to address, they spent Round 3, Pick 15 on A.J. Haulcy, a safety they were not short of.
Pick104 Rnd4 Daylen Everette
Steal is underselling it; Daylen Everette at No. 104 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick114 Rnd4 Joe Royer
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Joe Royer. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick141 Rnd5 Jaeden Roberts
Jaeden Roberts in the Round 5 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick161 Rnd5 Aaron Graves
No edge and no loss on Aaron Graves in pick 161; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick181 Rnd6 J'Mari Taylor
They let J'Mari Taylor come to them and pounced at slot 181. It fills a real need, too.
Pick194 Rnd6 Sawyer Robertson
Sawyer Robertson in No. 194 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick195 Rnd6 Kaelon Black
Kaelon Black at pick No. 195 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick217 Rnd7 Miles Kitselman
They paid sticker price for Miles Kitselman in the 217th overall pick, and that is fine. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick234 Rnd7 Markis Deal
This one needs a full-page explanation: Markis Deal in the 234th pick, miles early. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
