Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall

FutureB-
Good, not great, for the Commanders: B-. For all the boxes ticked, the Commanders skipped the loudest one: wide receiver is exactly as bare as it was. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
Stowers at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. Reaching for Payne left real value on the table behind him. Tight end was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the wide receiver spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick7
Rnd1
Jeremiyah Love
In the 7th overall pick they get a workhorse for the backfield. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick71
Rnd3
Eli Stowers
They let Eli Stowers come to them and pounced at the 71st pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick145
Rnd5
DeMonte Capehart
Nothing to complain about; DeMonte Capehart went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick185
Rnd6
VJ Payne
They liked VJ Payne enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 6, Pick 6. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick196
Rnd6
Toriano Pride Jr.
They paid up for Toriano Pride Jr. at slot 196 when waiting would have done the job. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick223
Rnd7
Keyshaun Elliott
A tidy bit of business in No. 223, where Keyshaun Elliott graded well above the range. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
