Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B+
ValueB- NeedB TradesA+ FutureB
The 49ers fleeced the room on the phones and earned a B+.

The real work happened on the phones. The 49ers fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with. It does the job without flash, and the B+ reflects it.

They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. The cost of the Heidenreich reach is exactly the players who went right after him.

They banked enough surplus on Davis to cover a lot of smaller sins.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.

Pick Analysis
Pick47 Rnd2 Gabe Jacas
No edge and no loss on Gabe Jacas in pick 47; it is a wash and a sensible one. The roster fit checks out.
Pick59 Rnd2 A.J. Haulcy
A.J. Haulcy slipping to the 59th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick127 Rnd4 Tacario Davis
Somehow Tacario Davis was still sitting there in No. 127, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick133 Rnd4 Trey Zuhn III
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Trey Zuhn III in Round 4, Pick 33. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick138 Rnd4 Oscar Delp
Nothing to complain about; Oscar Delp went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick139 Rnd4 Kaytron Allen
Kaytron Allen in slot 139 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick165 Rnd5 Kevin Coleman Jr.
No drama and no debate, Kevin Coleman Jr. went about where he belonged in pick No. 165. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick168 Rnd5 Matt Gulbin
They went early on Matt Gulbin in the Round 5 slot, and the value did not follow. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick182 Rnd6 Jeff Caldwell
They paid sticker price for Jeff Caldwell in the 182nd overall pick, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick220 Rnd7 Eli Heidenreich
Eli Heidenreich in No. 220 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
