Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall D
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureB-
The 49ers got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D.

The 49ers looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Nadame Tucker at pick No. 131 regardless, 41 picks early.

The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

They will answer for taking cornerback early while running back, interior defensive lineman and other spots went begging. Lew falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.

In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.

Pick Analysis
Pick18 Rnd1 Makai Lemon
They did well to land Makai Lemon in the Round 1 slot, just ahead of his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick51 Rnd2 Emmanuel Pregnon
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Emmanuel Pregnon in slot 51. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick82 Rnd3 Jacob Rodriguez
Nice patience on Jacob Rodriguez, who had no business lasting to the 82nd overall pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick95 Rnd3 Treydan Stukes
Treydan Stukes in the 95th pick is fair value, right on his grade. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick97 Rnd3 Connor Lew
Connor Lew slid further than he should have, and pick 97 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick125 Rnd4 Julian Neal
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Julian Neal at cornerback with running back, interior defensive lineman and other spots open.
Pick127 Rnd4 Jack Endries
Jack Endries in the 127th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The roster fit checks out.
Pick131 Rnd4 Nadame Tucker
Nadame Tucker in No. 131 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick133 Rnd4 Harold Perkins Jr.
Harold Perkins Jr. at Round 4, Pick 33 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick138 Rnd4 Jakobe Thomas
Jakobe Thomas in pick No. 138 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick139 Rnd4 Jude Bowry
The board had Jude Bowry higher than the Round 4 slot, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick171 Rnd5 Kaleb Elarms-Orr
Kaleb Elarms-Orr at the 171st pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
