Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall C+
ValueC- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The 49ers landed square in the muddy middle: C+.

The 49ers did not so much draft Max Bredeson as overpay for him, 114 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. A mixed bag that lands at C+.

They banked enough surplus on Stukes to cover a lot of smaller sins. They punted on running back, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with offensive lineman chief among the fixes.

Hit on Gabe Jacas and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.

Pick Analysis
Pick27 Rnd1 Gabe Jacas
They reached into another round for Gabe Jacas, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick59 Rnd2 Elijah Sarratt
They reached a country mile for Elijah Sarratt at the 59th pick, and the board is aghast. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick127 Rnd4 Treydan Stukes
Circle this one: Treydan Stukes at pick 127 is a fall that decides a draft. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick133 Rnd4 J.C. Davis
No edge and no loss on J.C. Davis in No. 133; it is a wash and a sensible one. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick139 Rnd4 DeMonte Capehart
By-the-book stuff, DeMonte Capehart at pick No. 139 squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick147 Rnd5 Dallen Bentley
A real head-scratcher, Dallen Bentley in the 147th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
Pick167 Rnd5 Charles Demmings
Somehow Charles Demmings was still sitting there in the 167th pick, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick209 Rnd6 Eli Heidenreich
Eli Heidenreich at Round 6, Pick 28 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick243 Rnd7 Max Bredeson
A wild overpay on Max Bredeson in slot 243, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
