Draft Grade — Browns

FutureA+
Larceny in Round 4, Pick 12 lands the Browns a B, Sarratt and all. Somebody in slot 112 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Browns sat still while Elijah Sarratt, the No. 77 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They are betting Fa'amoe proves the room right and everyone else wrong. Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.
They went 7 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Carnell Tate
In the Round 1 slot they get a No. 1 receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick24
Rnd1
Caleb Lomu
No edge and no loss on Caleb Lomu in pick 24; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick47
Rnd2
Anthony Hill Jr.
Anthony Hill Jr. slipping to slot 47 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick70
Rnd3
Jake Slaughter
A tidy bit of business in the 70th pick, where Jake Slaughter graded well above the range. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick107
Rnd4
Max Klare
They robbed the room for Max Klare here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The roster fit checks out.
Pick112
Rnd4
Elijah Sarratt
They barely believed it either: Elijah Sarratt still on the board at pick No. 112. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick146
Rnd5
Hezekiah Masses
Hezekiah Masses in Round 5, Pick 6 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick149
Rnd5
Skyler Gill-Howard
Skyler Gill-Howard at No. 149 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick156
Rnd5
Drew Allar
They paid sticker price for Drew Allar in pick 156, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick206
Rnd6
VJ Payne
A tidy little value on VJ Payne in slot 206, a step better than break-even. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick248
Rnd7
Fa'alili Fa'amoe
They jumped the gun on Fa'alili Fa'amoe, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It fills a real need, too.
