Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall D
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureD
The Cowboys bled value on every deal, hence the D.

Nobody else had Caden Curry anywhere near the 74th overall pick. The Cowboys did, by 58 spots, and that gap is the whole story. A D that will need time and luck to look better.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. They will answer for taking edge rusher early while offensive lineman and quarterback went begging. The offensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

If one pick saves this weekend, it is Orange. They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and offensive lineman is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick9 Rnd1 Sonny Styles
In the 9th pick they get a green-dot type in the middle. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick40 Rnd2 Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
By-the-book stuff, Emmanuel McNeil-Warren at the Round 2 slot squarely in line with his ranking. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick74 Rnd3 Caden Curry
Caden Curry in No. 74 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick75 Rnd3 Jake Golday
A want over a need in the 75th overall pick: Jake Golday adds an edge rusher while offensive lineman and quarterback keeps waiting.
Pick92 Rnd3 Domonique Orange
Circle this one: Domonique Orange at pick No. 92 is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick94 Rnd3 Tyreak Sapp
A surprising call. With offensive lineman and quarterback still to address, they spent pick 94 on Tyreak Sapp, an edge rusher they were not short of.
Pick112 Rnd4 Julian Neal
Julian Neal in No. 112 is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick152 Rnd5 Kaytron Allen
Kaytron Allen in the 152nd overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick177 Rnd5 Nate Boerkircher
Nate Boerkircher at pick 177 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick218 Rnd7 Eric McAlister
A wide receiver of that caliber at the 218th pick is the definition of value, full stop. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
