Draft Grade — Vikings
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB- FutureB
More right than wrong for the Vikings, and a B- to prove it.

The Vikings went off the board in a big way for Tyler Onyedim, 77 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Kilgore. It is not that Kilgore is a bad player; it is that the Vikings had louder needs to answer first. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.

Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Dillon Thieneman
In No. 31 they get an enforcer at safety at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick49 Rnd2 Caleb Banks
Nice patience on Caleb Banks, who had no business lasting to the Round 2 slot. It fills a real need, too.
Pick74 Rnd3 Eli Stowers
The board fumbled Eli Stowers all the way to Round 3, Pick 10, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick82 Rnd3 Keionte Scott
They will replay Keionte Scott at pick 82 for years; that is how good the value is. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick97 Rnd3 Bryce Lance
A reasonable price with a little left over, Bryce Lance in the 97th overall pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick109 Rnd4 Demond Claiborne
Demond Claiborne at the 109th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick125 Rnd4 Jalon Kilgore
They bypassed pressing needs at quarterback to take Jalon Kilgore, a cornerback that was not the priority.
Pick163 Rnd5 Aamil Wagner
A conviction pick on Aamil Wagner at pick 163 that the board grades a round light. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick196 Rnd6 Tyler Onyedim
Tyler Onyedim at pick No. 196 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick234 Rnd7 Fa'alili Fa'amoe
A reach on Fa'alili Fa'amoe in Round 7, Pick 18; the board had better options right there. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick235 Rnd7 Zavion Thomas
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Zavion Thomas at the 235th overall pick is the proof. The roster fit checks out.
Pick244 Rnd7 Adam Randall
A big swing on Adam Randall at No. 244, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
