Draft Grade — Texans
Overall
B-
ValueB
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Texans robbed the room for Hecht. Final grade: B-. Thirty-one other rooms let Sam Hecht slide, and the Texans were the ones holding the card at slot 106. Highway robbery.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Every board in the league had Kelly lower, and that gap is the story. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with running back the one that mattered most.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Olaivavega Ioane
In slot 28 they get an anchor for the offensive line. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick38
Rnd2
Christen Miller
Christen Miller in the 38th pick is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick59
Rnd2
Jadarian Price
No edge and no loss on Jadarian Price in pick No. 59; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick69
Rnd3
Max Iheanachor
They went early on Max Iheanachor in the 69th overall pick, and the value did not follow. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick106
Rnd4
Sam Hecht
They robbed the room for Sam Hecht here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The roster fit checks out.
Pick128
Rnd4
Bryce Lance
A quiet steal in pick 128: Bryce Lance for less than the market said. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick165
Rnd5
Domani Jackson
They read the board right and Domani Jackson was the payoff at Round 5, Pick 27. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick243
Rnd7
Seth McGowan
They liked Seth McGowan enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 243. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick244
Rnd7
Jack Kelly
The board had cheaper options than Jack Kelly at the 244th overall pick, and it noticed. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
