Draft Grade — Buccaneers
Overall
B-
ValueC
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Buccaneers a B-. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Buccaneers did exactly that with Eric O'Neill in Round 5, Pick 15. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Getting Klare where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
Tight end is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick16
Rnd1
Cashius Howell
In Round 1, Pick 16 they get a bendy edge with upside, even if it was a touch early. A real need, handled.
Pick47
Rnd2
Dani Dennis-Sutton
Dani Dennis-Sutton in pick No. 47 is fair value, right on his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick78
Rnd3
Max Klare
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Max Klare in the 78th pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick116
Rnd4
Austin Romaine
Austin Romaine at the 116th overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick154
Rnd5
Eric O'Neill
They left a pile of value on the table to take Eric O'Neill this early at No. 154. A need, and now a little less of one.
