Draft Grade — Broncos
Overall D+
ValueF NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
A puzzling weekend of work from the Broncos: D+.

There is conviction, and then there is this. The Broncos took Johntay Cook a full 274 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. A D+ that will need time and luck to look better.

The Lee III steal is the beam this whole class leans on. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.

They left with linebacker solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Johntay Cook
In the 30th overall pick they get a weapon on the perimeter, though the board says they badly overpaid. A real need, handled.
Pick62 Rnd2 Roderick Kearney
Roderick Kearney at pick No. 62 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick94 Rnd3 Trey Leckner
This one needs a full-page explanation: Trey Leckner in Round 3, Pick 30, miles early. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick103 Rnd4 James Smith
They talked themselves into James Smith at No. 103, and the board did not agree. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick130 Rnd4 Deion Burks
You do not let a wide receiver like Deion Burks reach the Round 4 slot and blink. They did not. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick170 Rnd5 Michael Harris
Michael Harris at slot 170 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick244 Rnd7 Aidan Chiles
A premium they did not need to pay, Aidan Chiles a notch or two before his time. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick250 Rnd7 Will Lee III
A cornerback of that caliber at the Round 7 slot is the definition of value, full stop. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick251 Rnd7 Dylan Lonergan
They reached into another round for Dylan Lonergan, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick256 Rnd7 Jalen Hale
Jalen Hale at Round 7, Pick 42 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A need, and now a little less of one.
