Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Browns
Overall
D+
ValueF
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Browns bet the future on Weigman. The board says D+. The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Browns reached some 311 spots for Hank Brown, and value like that does not grow back. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D+ is the result.
The whole projection now runs through Conner Weigman; hit there and everything else looks smarter. That Thompson pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, edge rusher very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick6
Rnd1
Conner Weigman
In Round 1, Pick 6 they get their quarterback of the future, though the board says they badly overpaid. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick28
Rnd1
Chris Brazzell II
In pick 28 they get a weapon on the perimeter at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick39
Rnd2
Roderick Kearney
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Roderick Kearney well ahead of where he belonged. It fills a real need, too.
Pick70
Rnd3
Caleb Tiernan
They paid a round early for Caleb Tiernan in the 70th pick, more than the board wanted. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick107
Rnd4
Dezz Ricks
Dezz Ricks at slot 107 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick139
Rnd5
Jaydn Ott
Jaydn Ott at No. 139 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick144
Rnd5
Jude Bowry
Good price on Jude Bowry in slot 144, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick147
Rnd5
Hank Brown
Value said wait; Hank Brown in Round 5, Pick 9 says they were not listening. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick206
Rnd6
Chris Johnson Jr.
They talked themselves into Chris Johnson Jr. at pick 206, and the board did not agree. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick248
Rnd7
Brenen Thompson
Brenen Thompson at the 248th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
