Draft Grade — Jets

FutureD
Simpson is the plan now, and the Jets grade out a B-. If confidence were a draft strategy, the Jets would have aced it. Madden Sanker at Round 6, Pick 27 is 274 spots clear of where he belonged. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
Getting Styles where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The whole projection now runs through Ty Simpson; hit there and everything else looks smarter.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. They punted on cornerback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Good work on the whole, with cornerback the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Ty Simpson
In pick No. 1 they get a franchise quarterback, though they paid up to get him. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick16
Rnd1
Monroe Freeling
In the Round 1 slot they get protection for the quarterback, reach and all. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick33
Rnd2
Chris Bell
Chris Bell at Round 2, Pick 1 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick44
Rnd2
Shamar Easter
They left a pile of value on the table to take Shamar Easter this early at No. 44. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick103
Rnd4
R Mason Thomas
You do not let an edge rusher like R Mason Thomas reach pick 103 and blink. They did not. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick175
Rnd5
Sonny Styles
The board fumbled Sonny Styles all the way to the 175th overall pick, and they scooped it up. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick178
Rnd5
Louis Moore
Steal is underselling it; Louis Moore at pick No. 178 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick206
Rnd6
Madden Sanker
A wild overpay on Madden Sanker in pick 206, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick209
Rnd6
Eric McAlister
Nice patience on Eric McAlister, who had no business lasting to slot 209. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick218
Rnd7
Jamal Haynes
A big swing on Jamal Haynes at Round 7, Pick 2, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick242
Rnd7
Robert Henry Jr.
No edge and no loss on Robert Henry Jr. in the Round 7 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A need, and now a little less of one.
