Draft Grade — Dolphins
Overall C+
ValueB- NeedB- TradesC+ FutureD+
Flashes of a plan, unevenly executed. Dolphins: C+.

Nobody else had Fa'alili Fa'amoe anywhere near the 179th overall pick. The Dolphins did, by 68 spots, and that gap is the whole story.

If one pick saves this weekend, it is Scott. The Stukes pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback, edge rusher and other spots still on the board. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.

Call it incomplete, and check back in a couple of seasons.

Pick Analysis
Pick16 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
In No. 16 they get a green-dot type in the middle at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick30 Rnd1 Max Iheanachor
In the 30th pick they get a cornerstone up front, even if it was a touch early. A real need, handled.
Pick33 Rnd2 Emmanuel Pregnon
Emmanuel Pregnon at pick 33 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick75 Rnd3 Omar Cooper Jr.
The board fumbled Omar Cooper Jr. all the way to pick No. 75, and they scooped it up. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick90 Rnd3 Keionte Scott
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Keionte Scott in the 90th overall pick, plain and simple. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick92 Rnd3 Zakee Wheatley
Fair-plus on Zakee Wheatley, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick94 Rnd3 Treydan Stukes
They bypassed pressing needs at quarterback, edge rusher and other spots to take Treydan Stukes, a cornerback that was not the priority.
Pick103 Rnd4 Ted Hurst
A premium they did not need to pay, Ted Hurst a notch or two before his time. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick130 Rnd4 Davison Igbinosun
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Davison Igbinosun adds a cornerback and leaves quarterback, edge rusher and other spots untouched.
Pick151 Rnd5 Aamil Wagner
Aamil Wagner in the 151st pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick177 Rnd5 Pat Coogan
They went early on Pat Coogan in slot 177, and the value did not follow. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick179 Rnd5 Fa'alili Fa'amoe
Fa'alili Fa'amoe in pick 179 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick227 Rnd7 Riley Nowakowski
They talked themselves into Riley Nowakowski at Round 7, Pick 11, and the board did not agree. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick228 Rnd7 Trey Zuhn III
Trey Zuhn III at the 228th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A need, and now a little less of one.
