The real work happened on the phones. The Patriots fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.

They banked enough surplus on Taaffe to cover a lot of smaller sins. They will need Rolder to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.

For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
