Draft Grade — Browns
Overall
C+
ValueB-
NeedB+
TradesD+
FutureB-
Quarterback settled, Mendoza in the fold, and a C+ for the Browns. The Browns spent the pick that matters most on Fernando Mendoza, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape.
Miller has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend. On the needs board they went 6 of 9, with quarterback the one that mattered most.
If Fernando Mendoza and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick Analysis
Pick6
Rnd1
Fernando Mendoza
A market-rate quarterback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Fernando Mendoza. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick27
Rnd1
Denzel Boston
In the 27th overall pick they get a go-to option on the outside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick39
Rnd2
Olaivavega Ioane
Olaivavega Ioane at slot 39 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
Pick70
Rnd3
Will Lee III
A tidy little value on Will Lee III in pick No. 70, a step better than break-even. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick107
Rnd4
Blake Miller
Blake Miller at the 107th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick110
Rnd4
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
Nothing to complain about; Emmanuel McNeil-Warren went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick140
Rnd5
Jacob Rodriguez
Jacob Rodriguez at Round 5, Pick 1 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick145
Rnd5
Aaron Graves
A real head-scratcher, Aaron Graves in the Round 5 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick210
Rnd6
Trey Zuhn III
No drama and no debate, Trey Zuhn III went about where he belonged in the 210th overall pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick248
Rnd7
Anthony Evans III
Anthony Evans III at the Round 7 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
