Draft Grade — Falcons

A puzzling weekend of work from the Falcons: D+. Nobody had Evan Prater this high, and it is not close. The Falcons reached 351 spots to get him at Round 4, Pick 16. Put together, it is a D+.
They banked enough surplus on Nolen to cover a lot of smaller sins. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped offensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.
Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 3 of 8 of the wish list covered. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and offensive lineman is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick15
Rnd1
Que Robinson
In Round 1, Pick 15 they get a double-digit-sack hope, a steep price for the projection. A real need, handled.
Pick46
Rnd2
Mykel Williams
Somehow Mykel Williams was still sitting there in slot 46, and they pounced on premier edge rusher value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick118
Rnd4
Evan Prater
Evan Prater at pick 118 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick218
Rnd7
Walter Nolen
Walter Nolen in the 218th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick242
Rnd7
Brian Ugwu
Brian Ugwu in the 242nd pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
