Draft Grade — Jaguars
Overall B
ValueF NeedB TradesA+ FutureA+
The Jaguars worked the phones like thieves and earned a B.

Nobody else had Donald Chaney anywhere near slot 142. The Jaguars did, by 250 spots, and that gap is the whole story. Good, not great, and the B says as much.

Warren falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. The phones were where this weekend was really won.

The safety hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Christian Benford pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 JT Tuimoloau
In the 30th overall pick they get a double-digit-sack hope, though they paid up to get him. Need was not the driver here.
Pick36 Rnd2 Quincy Riley
Value said wait; Quincy Riley in the 36th pick says they were not listening. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick56 Rnd2 Tyleik Williams
Tyleik Williams in the Round 2 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick70 Rnd3 Tyler Warren
Tyler Warren in pick 70 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick88 Rnd3 Hayden Conner
They talked themselves into Hayden Conner at No. 88, and the board did not agree. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick107 Rnd4 Carson Schwesinger
Taking Carson Schwesinger in Round 4, Pick 5 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick126 Rnd4 Warren Brinson
A big swing on Warren Brinson at the 126th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick142 Rnd5 Donald Chaney
Donald Chaney at pick 142 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick182 Rnd6 LaJohntay Wester
LaJohntay Wester in No. 182 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick194 Rnd6 Ryan Fitzgerald
Ryan Fitzgerald in slot 194 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick221 Rnd7 Cam Miller
The board had Cam Miller higher than Round 7, Pick 5, and the quarterback fell to them anyway. It fills a real need, too.
