The Bengals let Hairston fall and pounced. Final grade: D+. The rest of the league will want that one back. Maxwell Hairston tumbling to the Bengals in the 193rd overall pick is a gift they did not have to think twice about. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D+ is the result.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. The Bengals indulged a want in Carter while a need in wide receiver, quarterback and other spots stayed open. Leaving wide receiver unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.
