Draft Grade — Saints
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Saints, and a B- to prove it.

The Saints clearly saw something nobody else did in Barion Brown, taking him 19 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.

On value alone, Chambliss makes the weekend a net positive. For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain.

Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick8 Rnd1 Cashius Howell
In the 8th pick they get a problem off the edge, reach and all. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick42 Rnd2 Anthony Hill Jr.
Anthony Hill Jr. at pick No. 42 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick73 Rnd3 Lee Hunter
A tidy little value on Lee Hunter in Round 3, Pick 9, a step better than break-even. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick132 Rnd4 Trinidad Chambliss
The board had Trinidad Chambliss higher than No. 132, and the quarterback fell to them anyway. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick136 Rnd4 Domani Jackson
By-the-book stuff, Domani Jackson at the Round 4 slot squarely in line with his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick148 Rnd5 J'Mari Taylor
J'Mari Taylor at pick 148 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick170 Rnd5 DJ Campbell
DJ Campbell at pick No. 170 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick188 Rnd6 Barion Brown
Barion Brown in Round 6, Pick 9 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
