Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B

The 49ers checked most of the boxes and earned a B.

Every other box got a look, but wide receiver did not. The 49ers will head to camp with the same hole they walked in with.

Joly at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. Job largely done: offensive lineman settled and 3 of 8 of the wish list covered. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.

Pick Analysis
Pick27 Rnd1 Caleb Lomu
In the Round 1 slot they get protection for the quarterback at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick58 Rnd2 Gennings Dunker
Gennings Dunker in slot 58 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick127 Rnd4 Julian Neal
Nice patience on Julian Neal, who had no business lasting to the 127th overall pick. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick133 Rnd4 Justin Joly
Justin Joly at No. 133 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick138 Rnd4 Parker Brailsford
Parker Brailsford at pick 138 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick139 Rnd4 Harold Perkins Jr.
Nothing to complain about; Harold Perkins Jr. went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
