Start where it matters. The Vikings took Michael Penix Jr. to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one.
The Gore Jr. pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. However the rest shakes out, Whittington at that price is a win they earned.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 12th overall pick they get their quarterback of the future at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They jumped the gun on Denzel Burke, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It adds depth where they could use a little.
McKinnley Jackson slipping to slot 112 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Jaheim Bell at the 127th pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It fills a real need, too.
Ajani Cornelius in pick No. 149 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Jaylan Ford in pick 162 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A conviction pick on Moose Muhammad III at Round 5, Pick 29 that the board grades a round light. A need, and now a little less of one.
Frank Gore Jr. at the Round 6 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A quiet steal in slot 233: Jordan Whittington for less than the market said. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
