Draft Grade — Vikings
Overall B
ValueB+ NeedB- TradesB- FutureB-
The Vikings cashed the board's mistake on Ponds: B.

The Vikings spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: D'Angelo Ponds, the No. 50 name on the board, in Round 3, Pick 18.

A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. They are betting Jones proves the room right and everyone else wrong.

Safety is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick18 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
In slot 18 they get a green-dot type in the middle, and a steal at that. Need was not the driver here.
Pick52 Rnd2 Dillon Thieneman
Value with a capital V on Dillon Thieneman in the 52nd overall pick, a genuine coup. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick82 Rnd3 D'Angelo Ponds
D'Angelo Ponds in No. 82 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick97 Rnd3 Malachi Fields
They will replay Malachi Fields at pick No. 97 for years; that is how good the value is. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick120 Rnd4 Logan Jones
They liked Logan Jones enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 4, Pick 20. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick161 Rnd5 J'Mari Taylor
Nothing to complain about; J'Mari Taylor went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick194 Rnd6 Nate Boerkircher
Nice patience on Nate Boerkircher, who had no business lasting to the Round 6 slot. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick234 Rnd7 Miles Kitselman
Miles Kitselman slid further than he should have, and the 234th pick is lovely value for the tight end. The roster fit checks out.
Pick240 Rnd7 Trey Zuhn III
They paid sticker price for Trey Zuhn III in pick No. 240, and that is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick254 Rnd7 Andre Fuller
Circle this one: Andre Fuller at the Round 7 slot is a fall that decides a draft. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
