Draft Grade — Saints
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesC+ FutureB-
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Saints and Branch: B-.

The board owed the Saints one, and it paid up: Zachariah Branch, the No. 48 name on the board, sitting there at the Round 3 slot like a gift left on the doorstep. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.

They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Denzel Boston
In pick No. 20 they get a true top target. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick37 Rnd2 Dillon Thieneman
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Dillon Thieneman in the Round 2 slot. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick48 Rnd2 Tim Keenan III
They paid up for Tim Keenan III at pick 48 when waiting would have done the job. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick56 Rnd2 Suntarine Perkins
Suntarine Perkins at slot 56 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick69 Rnd3 Zachariah Branch
They will replay Zachariah Branch at the 69th pick for years; that is how good the value is. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick105 Rnd4 Parker Brailsford
By-the-book stuff, Parker Brailsford at the 105th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick138 Rnd4 Monroe Mills
They paid sticker price for Monroe Mills in No. 138, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick144 Rnd5 Antonio Kite
A reach on Antonio Kite in Round 5, Pick 6; the board had better options right there. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick183 Rnd6 Xavier Nwankpa
Nothing to complain about; Xavier Nwankpa went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick233 Rnd7 James Williams
James Williams at the Round 7 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
