A respectable, level-headed haul for the Bengals: B-.

It is a puzzling start. The Bengals had tight end, interior defensive lineman and other spots to solve and reached instead for Caden Curry, an edge rusher, at the 110th pick. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.

A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want. That Haulcy pick is the receipt they will wave around later. Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick10 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
In pick No. 10 they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick41 Rnd2 Caleb Banks
Caleb Banks is a better player than the 41st pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick72 Rnd3 A.J. Haulcy
A.J. Haulcy in No. 72 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick110 Rnd4 Caden Curry
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Caden Curry at edge rusher with tight end, interior defensive lineman and other spots open.
Pick187 Rnd6 Dane Key
A tidy little value on Dane Key in pick No. 187, a step better than break-even. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick197 Rnd6 Thaddeus Dixon
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Thaddeus Dixon at slot 197. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick226 Rnd7 Ahmaad Moses
No drama and no debate, Ahmaad Moses went about where he belonged in pick 226. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
