Key should have been long gone. The Bengals pounced, and earned a B-.

The Bengals did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Dane Key fell into pick No. 223. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.

They will regret leaving tight end for another day if the season turns on it. Lane has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.

Pick Analysis
Pick9 Rnd1 Peter Woods
In the Round 1 slot they get a premier pass rusher. Need was not the driver here.
Pick43 Rnd2 Ja'Kobi Lane
The board had cheaper options than Ja'Kobi Lane at pick No. 43, and it noticed. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick74 Rnd3 Darrell Jackson Jr.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Darrell Jackson Jr. at the 74th pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick109 Rnd4 Monroe Freeling
They paid a round early for Monroe Freeling in Round 4, Pick 9, more than the board wanted. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick188 Rnd6 Jermaine Mathews Jr.
Jermaine Mathews Jr. at the 188th overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick201 Rnd6 Bud Clark
Bud Clark in slot 201 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick223 Rnd7 Dane Key
Somehow Dane Key was still sitting there in pick 223, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
