PITTS MEX DRAFTING FOR THESteelers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall

FutureB-
The Steelers did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B-. They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: J.C. Davis, 25 picks early at pick 99. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
It is not that Davis is a bad player; it is that the Steelers had louder needs to answer first. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. That is an interior defensive lineman worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick21
Rnd1
Olaivavega Ioane
In pick No. 21 they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value. More want than need.
Pick53
Rnd2
Josiah Trotter
A straight-up fair deal on Josiah Trotter at pick 53, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick76
Rnd3
Zachariah Branch
They let Zachariah Branch come to them and pounced at No. 76. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick85
Rnd3
Michael Taaffe
Michael Taaffe at the 85th pick is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick99
Rnd3
J.C. Davis
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending Round 3, Pick 35 on J.C. Davis with edge rusher and tight end unsolved.
Pick121
Rnd4
Drew Allar
Value said wait; Drew Allar in the 121st overall pick says they were not listening. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick135
Rnd4
Hezekiah Masses
The board had Hezekiah Masses higher than the 135th pick, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. It fills a real need, too.
Pick161
Rnd5
DeMonte Capehart
Circle this one: DeMonte Capehart at the 161st overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick214
Rnd6
Kaelon Black
No drama and no debate, Kaelon Black went about where he belonged in slot 214. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick216
Rnd6
Keyshaun Elliott
No edge and no loss on Keyshaun Elliott in Round 6, Pick 35; it is a wash and a sensible one. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick224
Rnd7
Isaiah Nwokobia
Fair-plus on Isaiah Nwokobia, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick237
Rnd7
Raylen Wilson
Raylen Wilson slid further than he should have, and pick No. 237 is lovely value for the linebacker. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
