Draft Grade — Cardinals
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB+ TradesF FutureA+
The Cardinals robbed the room for Melton. Final grade: B-.

You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Cardinals did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.

However the rest shakes out, Melton at that price is a win they earned. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They will answer for taking cornerback early while quarterback, running back and other spots went begging.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick13 Rnd1 Olumuyiwa Fashanu
A tidy little value on Olumuyiwa Fashanu in pick 13, a step better than break-even. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick27 Rnd1 Keon Coleman
In pick No. 27 they get a home-run threat at receiver at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick35 Rnd2 Quinyon Mitchell
Quinyon Mitchell at Round 2, Pick 3 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick66 Rnd3 Mekhi Wingo
A straight-up fair deal on Mekhi Wingo at the 66th pick, value and slot in agreement. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick71 Rnd3 Christian Haynes
No drama and no debate, Christian Haynes went about where he belonged in the Round 3 slot. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick90 Rnd3 Gabriel Murphy
Good price on Gabriel Murphy in No. 90, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick104 Rnd4 Tyler Davis
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Tyler Davis at slot 104 is the proof. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick133 Rnd4 Max Melton
A surprising call. With quarterback, running back and other spots still to address, they spent No. 133 on Max Melton, a cornerback they were not short of.
