Draft Grade — Dolphins
Overall B
ValueB NeedB- TradesB- FutureB
More right than wrong for the Dolphins, and a B to prove it.

It is the swing that defines the weekend: Caden Curry in slot 90, a good 42 spots before the room expected him. Good, not great, and the B says as much.

They banked enough surplus on Caldwell to cover a lot of smaller sins. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Haulcy pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
Arvell Reese at the Round 1 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick30 Rnd1 Olaivavega Ioane
In pick 30 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at a price that makes it sweeter.
Pick47 Rnd2 Dillon Thieneman
They barely believed it either: Dillon Thieneman still on the board at Round 2, Pick 15. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick75 Rnd3 A.J. Haulcy
They zigged when the board said zag, taking A.J. Haulcy at safety with quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots open.
Pick87 Rnd3 Ted Hurst
No edge and no loss on Ted Hurst in pick No. 87; it is a wash and a sensible one. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick90 Rnd3 Caden Curry
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Caden Curry well ahead of where he belonged. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick94 Rnd3 Davison Igbinosun
Davison Igbinosun slid further than he should have, and slot 94 is lovely value for the cornerback. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick113 Rnd4 Jude Bowry
A conviction pick on Jude Bowry at pick No. 113 that the board grades a round light. It fills a real need, too.
Pick130 Rnd4 Will Lee III
Of all the spots to shop, they chose cornerback. Will Lee III in Round 4, Pick 30 leaves quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots for later.
Pick151 Rnd5 Beau Stephens
Beau Stephens in the 151st pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The roster fit checks out.
Pick227 Rnd7 Jeff Caldwell
They will replay Jeff Caldwell at the Round 7 slot for years; that is how good the value is. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick238 Rnd7 Thaddeus Dixon
Thaddeus Dixon at No. 238 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
