Draft Grade — Bears

FutureB
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Bears and Thieneman: B+. Somebody in pick No. 59 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Bears sat still while Dillon Thieneman, the No. 35 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Good, not great, and the B+ says as much.
They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. The Halton reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
The trade work was a quiet net positive. They left with interior defensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick27
Rnd1
Sonny Styles
In the 27th pick they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker. A real need, handled.
Pick59
Rnd2
Dillon Thieneman
They will replay Dillon Thieneman at the 59th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick62
Rnd2
Caleb Banks
Taking Caleb Banks in No. 62 is close to grand larceny; an interior defensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick89
Rnd3
Jacob Rodriguez
Value with a capital V on Jacob Rodriguez in slot 89, a genuine coup. It fills a real need, too.
Pick106
Rnd4
Sam Hecht
Somehow Sam Hecht was still sitting there in pick No. 106, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick111
Rnd4
Treydan Stukes
Treydan Stukes in the Round 4 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick129
Rnd4
Gracen Halton
A reach on Gracen Halton in pick 129; the board had better options right there. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick138
Rnd4
Oscar Delp
Nice patience on Oscar Delp, who had no business lasting to Round 4, Pick 38. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick239
Rnd7
Zavion Thomas
You do not let a wide receiver like Zavion Thomas reach pick 239 and blink. They did not. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick241
Rnd7
Trey Zuhn III
They paid sticker price for Trey Zuhn III in Round 7, Pick 25, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick246
Rnd7
De'Zhaun Stribling
De'Zhaun Stribling in slot 246 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
