Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
Good, not great, for the Texans: B-.

There is conviction, and then there is this. The Texans took Mike Washington Jr. a full 42 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.

Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. However the rest shakes out, Jackson at that price is a win they earned.

Running back was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick28 Rnd1 Kenyon Sadiq
Kenyon Sadiq at pick 28 is money in the bank, a tight end taken below his worth. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick38 Rnd2 Max Iheanachor
A reach on Max Iheanachor in slot 38; the board had better options right there. The roster fit checks out.
Pick62 Rnd2 Jacob Rodriguez
Jacob Rodriguez in the 62nd overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick69 Rnd3 Mike Washington Jr.
Mike Washington Jr. in No. 69 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick106 Rnd4 Gracen Halton
They reached a country mile for Gracen Halton at the 106th pick, and the board is aghast. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick108 Rnd4 Jalon Kilgore
A conviction pick on Jalon Kilgore at Round 4, Pick 8 that the board grades a round light. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick128 Rnd4 Nate Boerkircher
They reached into another round for Nate Boerkircher, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick165 Rnd5 Domani Jackson
Domani Jackson slid further than he should have, and the 165th pick is lovely value for the cornerback. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick243 Rnd7 Trey Zuhn III
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Trey Zuhn III. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick244 Rnd7 Eli Heidenreich
Eli Heidenreich in the 244th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick255 Rnd7 Enrique Cruz Jr.
Enrique Cruz Jr. at slot 255 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
