The Dolphins did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B-. The Dolphins bet big and early on Blake Miller, 27 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. On value alone, Wheatley makes the weekend a net positive. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
The Jammie Robinson pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick22
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In the Round 1 slot they get a downhill thumper at linebacker, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
Pick43
Rnd2
Emmanuel Pregnon
Nothing to complain about; Emmanuel Pregnon went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick55
Rnd2
Gennings Dunker
A straight-up fair deal on Gennings Dunker at the 55th pick, value and slot in agreement. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick75
Rnd3
Keionte Scott
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 75, where Keionte Scott graded well above the range. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick87
Rnd3
Zakee Wheatley
Zakee Wheatley at the 87th overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick91
Rnd3
Blake Miller
They reached into another round for Blake Miller, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick111
Rnd4
Bryce Lance
By-the-book stuff, Bryce Lance at pick 111 squarely in line with his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick150
Rnd5
Taylen Green
Taylen Green at slot 150 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick215
Rnd6
J. Michael Sturdivant
J. Michael Sturdivant in Round 6, Pick 36 is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick220
Rnd7
Keyron Crawford
They went early on Keyron Crawford in the 220th overall pick, and the value did not follow. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick227
Rnd7
Ethan O'Connor
No edge and no loss on Ethan O'Connor in the 227th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
