Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Texans.

The Jalen Catalon pick is the one that will follow the Texans into the fall. They took him 53 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so.

That is an offensive lineman worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Running back is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

Pick Analysis
Pick28 Rnd1 Olaivavega Ioane
In No. 28 they get a blindside protector. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick38 Rnd2 CJ Allen
A clean, defensible pick in pick 38 with a little surplus value in CJ Allen. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick59 Rnd2 Caleb Banks
Nice patience on Caleb Banks, who had no business lasting to pick No. 59. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick69 Rnd3 Jake Slaughter
Jake Slaughter at Round 3, Pick 5 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick106 Rnd4 Keylan Rutledge
They went early on Keylan Rutledge in the Round 4 slot, and the value did not follow. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick128 Rnd4 Mike Washington Jr.
They took Mike Washington Jr. at par in the 128th pick, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick165 Rnd5 Xavier Nwankpa
Xavier Nwankpa at pick 165 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick243 Rnd7 Trey Zuhn III
A straight-up fair deal on Trey Zuhn III at slot 243, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick244 Rnd7 Jalen Catalon
They talked themselves into Jalen Catalon at No. 244, and the board did not agree. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
