Scouting Report: Strengths
- Classic nose tackle with prototype size - stands 6-4 at 335lbs
- Some position versatility - can play both as a 3-tech and a 1-tech
- Takes good angles to the ball and there isn't any wasted movement
- Can make the impressive chest-to-chest bear hug tackle in the hole due to his ability to wreak havoc in the backfield.
- Ika has heavy hands and uses them aggressively, rocking offensive linemen back. He shows the ability to disengage and out-grapple blockers in a phone booth.
- Despite a bowling-ball build, Ika has good feet and agility, capable of working laterally down the line of scrimmage in pursuit.
- Has the ability to create a pile in the middle, even showing the ability to split the occasional double-team. However, is just as often blown off the ball due to his high pad level.
- A high-motor pass rusher, Ika has a compact but wide frame and long arms.
- Provides some secondary interior pass rush, getting most penetration when playing three-technique.
- Surprisingly quick agile feet for a man of his huge size
- Destroys double teams with regularity
- Manages to get his hands up in the air on passing downs - a threat to bat passes down
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Misses far too many tackles and plays too high
- Had a dip in production as a pass rusher in 2022 where he made no sacks
- Plays unbalanced - you seem on the ground far too often
- Plays too high enabling blockers to get under his pads and win the leverage battle
- Doesn't play fundamentally sound and lacks much technique in his repertoire.
- Doesn't have much in the way of pass-rush moves beyond a pretty effective bull rush
- Billed as a quick for his size - but he underperformed at the combine where his numbers in the agility drills were all lower than the 15th percentile
Player Comparison
Tedarrell SlatonScouting Report: Summary
Siaki Ika is a huge classic prototypical nose tackle possessing all the size and strength you hope to see in the position. He is a serious space-eater and requires double teams to control his bull rush, and since his transfer to Baylor has been a very productive dominating player in the middle of the line. He however has never displayed elite tackling ability and was billed as an impressive athlete with surprising quickness for his size this size, but this didn't show during his combine workout - as he put up pretty pedestrian numbers, which may have impacted his stock.Overall it's difficult to give Ika anything higher than the third-round grade in the 2023 NFL draft although he may be overdrafted due to the lack of quality NTs in the class.
