Draft Profile: Bio
Luke Matthews from Elkins High School was rated a 4-star recruit by ESPN and handed a 4-star grade by 247 Sports. Following high school, Matthews opted to join Texas A&M.In 2019 as a freshman Matthews saw action in 5 games and played a total of 60 snaps for the Aggies. He allowed just 2 QB hurries, no QB hits, and no sacks while playing most of his snaps at center.
As a sophomore in 2021 he played in just one game and a total of 6 snaps. He conceded just one QB hurry, no QB hits, and no sacks while playing sparingly.
Scouting Report: Strengths
- Has average height with a narrow base out of his stance. Needs to get stronger in his lower half to anchor at the point of attack.
- Has the feet to adjust when Matthews anticipates what's coming. Effective trapping and bends at the knees with adequate core strength to absorb the bull rush. Can clear a path at the second level if he hits the target.
- Shows good quickness and flexibility on reach blocks, and he has enough range to get out as a puller.
- Shows good awareness after the snap, reacting and positioning himself against twists and stunts
- Cerebral player, quick to react to twists and stunts up front, and he shows an excellent understanding of angles when moving out as a run blocker.
- In the run game, he shows good burst off the line of scrimmage, with the ability to win at the point of attack. Matthews has enough speed and athleticism to move to the second level and land blocks.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Lacks lateral agility, flexibility and footwork to start on the outside in the NFL.
- His kick slide is inconsistent, and he’ll often set too high; he’ll get pushed around by speed-to-power guys in the NFL.
- More of a waist bender with subpar feet, and Matthews too often ends up reaching and lunging when going against quickness.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank
in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance.
For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.
*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
