Draft Profile: Bio
Born in Council Bluffs, Iowa, Logan Jones developed into a standout multi-sport athlete at Lewis Central High School. A three-year letterman in basketball with dunking ability, Jones also excelled in track and field early in his athletic career. On the gridiron, Jones dominated as a two-way player, earning Iowa's Lineman of the Year honors in his junior and senior seasons.

After redshirting in 2020 at Iowa, Jones missed most of 2021 with a knee injury. In spring 2022, he transitioned from defensive line to center to replace Tyler Linderbaum. Jones started all 13 games in 2022, playing every offensive snap in 10 contests. In 2023, he started 13 games, missing one due to injury, and earned Third Team All-Big Ten honors from league coaches. He helped pave the way for Iowa's best rushing performance against Wisconsin since 2008.

Entering 2024, Jones has been named to the Outland Trophy and Rimington Trophy watch lists. He holds Iowa's all-time max squat record at 700 pounds and can bench press 425 pounds. The converted defensive lineman brings exceptional athleticism and strength to the center position as he looks to solidify his draft stock in his third year as a starter.<
Scouting Report: Strengths
  • Elite athleticism for the position, who has the speed to fill in at tight end
  • Exceptional lower body strength - has made a 700-pound squat record. Is a strong anchor against bull rushes
  • Quick learner who successfully transitioned from defensive line to center, mastering a complex position in short order
  • Durable player who has started 26 consecutive games, playing every offensive snap in multiple contests
  • Versatile lineman with experience at multiple positions, including offensive tackle in high school
  • High football IQ, able to make line calls and adjustments pre-snap after just two seasons at center
  • Powerful drive blocker in the run game, consistently moves defenders off the line of scrimmage
  • Relentless work ethic and competitive drive, constantly seeking to improve his technique and strength
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
  • Still relatively new to the center position, may need time to refine techniques and nuances of the role at the next level
  • Pass protection skills are a work in progress, occasionally struggles with complex blitz pickups
  • Hand placement can be inconsistent, leading to penalties and loss of leverage in some blocking situations
  • Could improve core strength to better anchor against powerful nose tackles in the NFL
  • May need to add bulk to his frame to withstand the rigors of the professional game consistently
Scouting Report: Summary
Logan Jones brings excellent athleticism to the center position, showcasing decent lateral agility for an interior lineman. His multi-sport background contributes to functional strength, but his technique remains unrefined. Jones' quick transition from defensive line to center demonstrates adaptability, yet he's still raw in many aspects of the position.

Jones struggles with consistency in pass protection, often losing leverage against savvy defenders. His hand placement and anchor need significant work to hold up against NFL-caliber defensive tackles. While he shows flashes in the run game, his overall impact is limited by inconsistent execution and lack of dominating power at the point of attack.

Jones profiles as a developmental center prospect with special teams potential. His athleticism could make him a practice squad candidate as he refines his technique. While he may not be an immediate contributor, Jones could compete for a backup role. Teams looking for center depth in the late rounds or as a priority free agent might see Jones as a low-risk, decent-upside prospect.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance. For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.

*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
