Scouting Report: Strengths
- Robinson brings a nice blend of size, speed and power. His best attribute is his relentlessness; He consistently thrashes through tacklers to turn minimal gains into long ones.
- He’s aggressive and willing, with more than enough size when asked to chip block or pick up blitzers. He has the potential to be one of the league’s best in that area.
- He has very good vision and a knack for picking out cut-back lanes and then breaking off chunks of yardage.
- Does a nice job of detecting holes in the line and when he sees one he has an impressive burst
- Possesses quick feet and straight-line speed although doesn't have the elite burst to be a constant big-play threat. Is patient as a runner, following pulling guards and makes good decisions on his cut.
- Fights for extra yardage and is reliable in short-yardage situations.
- Very well-balanced runner who is able to run with ease through all but the heaviest tackles without going to the ground
- Well-developed moves make excellent use of the stiff arm, has an elite-level spin move and a beautiful stutter step
- Despite being a big back is still able to cut on a dime - and is a natural quick twitch player
- Good receiver with decent hands who can explode for big gains if given the space
- Consistent pass blocker - with an instinct to pick up pass rushers
- He keeps his pads low and consistently falls forward. Unlike most backs his size, he has the lateral movement and stop-start ability to make defenders whiff. Robinson has breakaway speed in the open field.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- While he has very good speed it isn't elite - you won't see him run away from DBs
- Can be a little indecisive and hesitant at the line of scrimmage.
- Robinson can sometimes be impatient, not allowing his blocks to set up, a nuance required for backs to last a decade-plus.
- Robinson's contact balance is not elite
- Needs to learn to become more controlled with movements
- Sometimes steers himself into dead ends
- To often plays with his pads too high
- Resorts to body-catching on passing downs
- Plays with too much wasted motion
- Doesn't always fully extend or sustain blocks
Scouting Report: Summary
Bijan Robinson is an impressive athlete with ideal size and power for a traditional workhorse back. Has produced wherever he has played and looks like the kind of player who twenty years ago could be viewed as a likely number-one overall pick. Given the current lack of demand for running backs in the NFL, especially as high selections, it's unlikely he'll be a top ten selection but he's not likely going to last past the 20th pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.Bijan Robinson percentiles vs other Running Backs (NFL Combine historically - higher value represents better perfomance)
