Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B-

The Steelers answered their biggest question with Nussmeier. Grade: B-.

The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Steelers spent their marquee pick on Garrett Nussmeier, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.

However the rest shakes out, Chambliss at that price is a win they earned. Reaching for Nussmeier left real value on the table behind him.

That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick Analysis
Pick14 Rnd1 Garrett Nussmeier
Garrett Nussmeier at pick 14 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick45 Rnd2 Caleb Lomu
A tidy little value on Caleb Lomu in No. 45, a step better than break-even. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick78 Rnd3 Antonio Williams
The board had Antonio Williams higher than pick No. 78, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick80 Rnd3 LaNorris Sellers
The board fumbled LaNorris Sellers all the way to the 80th overall pick, and they scooped it up. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick99 Rnd3 Zakee Wheatley
Zakee Wheatley at the 99th pick is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick113 Rnd4 Jack Endries
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jack Endries in Round 4, Pick 13. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick133 Rnd4 Chris Johnson
Chris Johnson slid further than he should have, and slot 133 is lovely value for the cornerback. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick154 Rnd5 Logan Jones
A quiet steal in the Round 5 slot: Logan Jones for less than the market said. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick213 Rnd6 Quintrevion Wisner
Quintrevion Wisner in slot 213 is fair value, right on his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick214 Rnd6 Drayk Bowen
Drayk Bowen at pick 214 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick217 Rnd7 Roderick Kearney
A big swing on Roderick Kearney at the Round 7 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick229 Rnd7 Trinidad Chambliss
Trinidad Chambliss in No. 229 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
