Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall

FutureB+
The Chiefs bled value on every deal, hence the D-. They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Demon Clowney, 188 picks early at the Round 7 slot.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. With quarterback unsolved, spending premium capital on cornerback is the choice that costs them. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick13
Rnd1
Jermod McCoy
In No. 13 they get a ballhawk on the outside. More want than need.
Pick44
Rnd2
Ja'Kobi Lane
No edge and no loss on Ja'Kobi Lane in the 44th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick56
Rnd2
Kamari Ramsey
A tidy bit of business in Round 2, Pick 24, where Kamari Ramsey graded well above the range. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick63
Rnd2
Ian Strong
The board had cheaper options than Ian Strong at the Round 2 slot, and it noticed. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick76
Rnd3
Eli Stowers
Eli Stowers at the 76th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick77
Rnd3
Xavier Chaplin
They took Xavier Chaplin at par in pick No. 77, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick83
Rnd3
Nicholas Singleton
They jumped the gun on Nicholas Singleton, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick114
Rnd4
Domani Jackson
A want over a need in the 114th pick: Domani Jackson adds a cornerback while quarterback keeps waiting.
Pick139
Rnd4
Jacob Rodriguez
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jacob Rodriguez this early at Round 4, Pick 39. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick152
Rnd5
Aaron Graves
Aaron Graves at No. 152 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It fills a real need, too.
Pick153
Rnd5
Davison Igbinosun
Davison Igbinosun in pick No. 153 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick175
Rnd5
Xavier Nwankpa
They liked Xavier Nwankpa enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 175. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick179
Rnd5
Lee Hunter
A big swing on Lee Hunter at slot 179, well ahead of any board in the building. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick228
Rnd7
Demon Clowney
A wild overpay on Demon Clowney in the 228th overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
