Draft Grade — Jets
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The Jets answered their biggest question with Mendoza. Grade: B-.

The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Jets spent their marquee pick on Fernando Mendoza, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.

The Alexander pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

Banks falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. Job largely done: quarterback settled and 7 of 8 of the wish list covered.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick7 Rnd1 Fernando Mendoza
Fernando Mendoza in Round 1, Pick 7 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick23 Rnd1 Makai Lemon
In the Round 1 slot they get a matchup problem out wide, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick38 Rnd2 Anthony Hill Jr.
They took Anthony Hill Jr. at par in pick No. 38, which is nothing to complain about. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick48 Rnd2 Caleb Banks
You do not let an edge rusher like Caleb Banks reach No. 48 and blink. They did not. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick108 Rnd4 Brendan Sorsby
Brendan Sorsby in the 108th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick177 Rnd5 Terion Stewart
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Terion Stewart. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick198 Rnd6 Oscar Delp
Nothing to complain about; Oscar Delp went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick201 Rnd6 Isaiah Jatta
Isaiah Jatta at slot 201 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick211 Rnd6 Evan Stewart
Evan Stewart in the Round 6 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick216 Rnd7 Kalil Alexander
Kalil Alexander at Round 7, Pick 1 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick236 Rnd7 Khalil Barnes
Khalil Barnes in No. 236 lands just on the right side of the ledger. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick254 Rnd7 Jordan White
A big swing on Jordan White at slot 254, well ahead of any board in the building. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick256 Rnd7 Elliot Washington II
A reach for Elliot Washington II in the 256th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
