FutureB
The Jets kept it disciplined and banked a B-. The Jets put a flag in the ground for J. Michael Sturdivant, 27 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
Getting Allar where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend. Quarterback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Chris Brazzell II
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Chris Brazzell II. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick23
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
They read the board right and Arvell Reese was the payoff at slot 23. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick38
Rnd2
Kenyon Sadiq
A slide stopped in pick 38, with Kenyon Sadiq worth more than the price. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick44
Rnd2
Jake Slaughter
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jake Slaughter in the Round 2 slot. The roster fit checks out.
Pick48
Rnd2
Dillon Thieneman
Dillon Thieneman in No. 48 is fair value, right on his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick108
Rnd4
Chris Johnson
A conviction pick on Chris Johnson at pick No. 108 that the board grades a round light. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick177
Rnd5
Drew Allar
Drew Allar at the 177th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick198
Rnd6
Monroe Mills
Monroe Mills at the 198th overall pick is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick201
Rnd6
Evan Stewart
Evan Stewart in the Round 6 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick211
Rnd6
Isaiah Nwokobia
No drama and no debate, Isaiah Nwokobia went about where he belonged in slot 211. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick236
Rnd7
J. Michael Sturdivant
J. Michael Sturdivant at pick No. 236 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
