Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall D-
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureB-
Best value of the weekend goes to the Commanders for Mills: D-.

The Commanders lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D-.

They will regret leaving wide receiver for another day if the season turns on it. They are betting Norfleet proves the room right and everyone else wrong.

Getting Mills where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with tight end the one that mattered most.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, wide receiver very much included.

Pick Analysis
Pick7 Rnd1 Peter Woods
In Round 1, Pick 7 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick40 Rnd2 Sonny Styles
They took Sonny Styles at par in pick 40, which is nothing to complain about. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick41 Rnd2 Jake Slaughter
By-the-book stuff, Jake Slaughter at pick No. 41 squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick65 Rnd3 A'Mauri Washington
A'Mauri Washington in the 65th overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick73 Rnd3 Daylen Everette
A slide stopped in the Round 3 slot, with Daylen Everette worth more than the price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick146 Rnd5 Jyaire Hill
Nice patience on Jyaire Hill, who had no business lasting to No. 146. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick188 Rnd6 Monroe Mills
You do not let an offensive lineman like Monroe Mills reach Round 6, Pick 7 and blink. They did not. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick197 Rnd6 Sawyer Robertson
Sawyer Robertson at pick No. 197 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It fills a real need, too.
Pick223 Rnd7 Brett Norfleet
Brett Norfleet in pick 223 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
