Mazerunna DRAFTING FOR THEChiefs

Draft Grade — Chiefs

The phones sank the Chiefs this weekend: D-. The trade table was where it all came apart. The Chiefs shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill.
The wide receiver spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They will answer for taking safety early while wide receiver, offensive lineman and other spots went begging. Every board in the league had Taaffe lower, and that gap is the story.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, wide receiver very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Caleb Downs
In the 12th overall pick they get a ballhawk on the back end at a price that makes it sweeter.
Pick14
Rnd1
Jermod McCoy
In Round 1, Pick 14 they get a press-man option on the boundary at fair value. Need was not the driver here.
Pick16
Rnd1
Jeremiyah Love
Value with a capital V on Jeremiyah Love in pick 16, a genuine coup. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick45
Rnd2
Anthony Hill Jr.
Anthony Hill Jr. is a better player than pick No. 45 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick46
Rnd2
Michael Taaffe
A curious use of the 46th pick. Wide receiver, offensive lineman and other spots needed the pick; a safety in Michael Taaffe did not.
Pick76
Rnd3
Eli Stowers
A clean, defensible pick in slot 76 with a little surplus value in Eli Stowers. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
